Given that I am in the throws of what seems to be a sinus cold and my brain is about as useful as a windshield wiper on a submarine, I won’t even try to write anything of substance this evening. If you’re looking for me, you’ll find me somewhere over the rainbow, far from this mind fog, in my own private la-la land, warm and cozy under a pile of blankets, head resting peacefully on my pillow, hoping, against all hope, that I dream of Ryan Gosling (ladies, beware, side effects of watching this video may include drooling, heart palpitations, tingles, hallucinations, pupil dilation and falling in love.)
“We were made to enjoy music, to enjoy beautiful sunsets, to enjoy looking at the billows of the sea and to be thrilled with a rose that is bedecked with dew… Human beings are actually created for the transcendent, for the sublime, for the beautiful, for the truthful… and all of us are given the task of trying to make this world a little more hospitable to these beautiful things.” - Desmond Tutu
I’ve been feeling anxious all day; a restlessness akin to drinking ten double espressos laced with speed, then washing it all down with a 2L bottle of Pepsi. Jitters without a cause. Don’t you just hate that? When you can’t quite put a finger on what is bothering you?
But I’m thinking it has something to do with the US elections. This is, in my lifetime, the mother of all elections and it seems like no matter which “side” you are on, you are dead set on not wanting the “other” side in power, so perhaps I’m feeding off a collective nail-biting angst. I feel like Christmas morning, hoping to get that gift I really, really want and at the same time, I have a deep seated fear of losing something I never even had.
My absentee ballot has been mailed and I’m keeping my fingers crossed up here. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one… millions of people with their hearts aflutter with hope… for Obama.

I just had to share this. I could hardly believe my eyes when I read these voting instructions on my absentee ballot.
Notice to Absentee Voters
To vote, fill in the ovals to the right of the candidate (s) name in black or blue ink (pen is not included)
You HAVE to be kidding me. Really? Seriously? Seriously!
Happy Voting America! And for all US citizens living abroad, I hope the fact that pens weren’t included with your absentee ballots didn’t prevent you from casting your vote.
I moved into my very own place over the weekend, which is so freaking awesome that I wish I had a better word to describe it, but in my excitement the only way I can currently emphasize the awesome is by prefacing it with freaking. It’s weak, I know, but I hope this conveys my enthusiasm.
C’est vraiment de toute beauté! I want to tell you all about it, and I will, but for now there are floors to wash, walls to paint, things to buy, things to rearrange, things to recycle, dust (and lots of it) to wipe off, groceries to do (you know the one – the first grocery shopping that costs like $350), smells to remove and fragrances to add (each house has its own smell and this place doesn’t quite smell like home yet – I suspect that a dehydrator full of macaroons, open windows, a blueberry pie in the oven, a pot of soup boiling on the stove top, some beeswax candles and a few incense sticks might do the trick).
I can’t wait to tell you all about the how (the Universe works in mysterious ways), the when, the who and the where (oh! how I love this where). I’ll be back when the house is clean, with a slice of pie and a cup of ginger tea and stories to share.
